Keeping The Main Thing The Main Thing

I went to my office today (that is our local Starbucks) to get some work done. I grabbed my usual...Grande cup of brewed coffee and grabbed my favorite spot to get some work done. A little while later, I decided that it was lunch time and I would get another favorite, the Reduced‐Fat Turkey Bacon, Cholesterol‐Free Egg, Reduced‐Fat White Cheddar breakfast sandwich. When I looked in the glass case that showcases all of the yummy food, the breakfast sandwiches were not there! I asked at the register what was going on...She told me that Starbucks has decided to discontinue them. I continued to press for more information...Why? She said that the smell of the sandwiches toasting hides the smell of the coffee! I started laughing...it sounded funny to me. After all, I've been in Starbucks enough to know that they sell a ton of them everyday. Why would they stop selling them? Then I thought about it...Starbucks sells coffee. That's their main thing. They know it and they are not willing to allow anything get in the way of what they do best! They are willing to stop selling breakfast sandwiches that are selling well, in order to give people the full experience of what they do best. What if the Church stopped trying to do everything ok, and started doing a few things really well! We can offer every program under the sun and try to dabble in all kinds of things or we can focus on a few things and do them really well. Let's keep our main thing the main thing.
